De La Tierra Gardens started in 2003 after farmer Jackie graduated from college with an Environmental Science degree and returned from working and learning at Merck Forest and Farmland Center in Rupert, VT. This experience inspired the transformation of a one acre field into a 'micro farm' in Taneytown, MD. The farm started as a Certified Organic operation, marketing through a CSA and various farmer's markets in Carroll, Frederick and Baltimore counties.
We have refined our marketing quite a bit as we are now raising 2 young children. We currently grow cut flowers in our field and greenhouse, as well as herb and flower plants for spring sales in our greenhouse. We have not updated our Certified Organic status, however we are committed to growing our plants and flowers in keeping with the Organic Standards.
